The Legal Unit of the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science handles all legal matters in the Institute

The Unit serves as an advisory arm to the Institute. The functions include the following:

a. Rendering legal opinion and advice on matters relating to the running of the Institute
b. Preparing Legal Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding
c. Preparing other legal instruments such as draft bills and subsidiary legislations.
d. Conducting extensive investigations into claims or disputes arising from agreements entered into between the Institute and the other parties
e. Instituting actions on behalf of the Institute for any right or claim and defending the Institute in any case instituted by any other person or body against the Institute
f. Verifying advance payment guarantee (APG) or performance bond submitted by any contractor
g. Conducting searches at the Corporate Affairs Commission and other relevant bodies on any company to be engaged by the Institute as Contractor
h. Undertaking the registration of any instrument regarding the Institute or any of its Units with relevant bodies.

The Unit has membership of the following Committees among others:.

a. Procurement Committee.

b. NIAS Disciplinary Committee
